Creating Word Problems

Math Topic: Word Problems-Developing Problem solving skills.
Modifications to Lesson: The lesson asks the students to use some functions that we do not have on our calculators, but the activity can be done without those functions.
Other Information: I would put these work problems and directions on the ELMO so I would not have to copy off one for each student.

You can choose game one (addition/subtraction) or game two (multiplication or division). These are word problems that are single and multi-step problems. The goal is to get the problem correct and hit a grand slam home run. If you get the problem wrong, it tells you to try again. It also has a help button if you do not understand the problem
This is a great game for students to play for word problem solving. This is a SBL lesson and would be great to use before the West Test. For grade level 4

Hoops

Gives the students 5 word problems to solve. If they solve 5 problems correctly then they get a chance to shoot hoops!
The word problems are single and multi-step so they get mixed practice solving easier problems as well as more challenging ones. The students will definitely need scratch paper to solve some of the problems.
I chose Level 1 and it was just right for 3rd Grade.
